Ep #22 - Greg Jackson's 60s Pick: Hands Over the City
Cinema60 welcomes Greg Jackson, author of Prodigals, journalist, and fan of Bart & Greg’s DVD Explosion! (RIP). Bart and Jenna invited him on to talk about Hands Over The City, one of his favorite films from the 1960s. Born out of the Italian economic miracle, and existing somewhere in-between neorealism and commedia all'italiana, Francesco Rosi’s Le Mani Sulla Citta is a procedural tale of gentrification gone wrong and the political investigation that follows. It may sound dry, but it’s surprisingly relevant in this day and age of blatant political corruption.
In this episode, Greg dives into the why’s behind his fascination with the internal mechanisms of how political systems are run, as well as the intersection of art and politics. Bart and Jenna are helpless but to appreciate how right he is.
